WineScores' Review

Told to me by long-time friend and broadcaster Terry David Mulligan, the story is back in Slovakia where Michal Mosney and his wife made wine they happened to catch an episode of Hollywood & Vines (the wine travel show Terry and actor Jason Priestley did together for three seasons starting in 2006) being filmed in the Okanagan Valley. The Mosneys travelled to the Okanagan, fell in love, returned to Slovakia and sold their estate before moving to BC and finally establishing Winemaker's Cut. When Mosney reached out to the duo earlier this year about making a wine, they said, "absolutely!" Actor and broadcaster consulted on the cuvee.
Released on November 19, 2022, this is the first vintage of Q&A (question and answer), a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauv, 38% Merlot, 13% Cab Franc and 4% Petit Verdot from the Quails Gate and Chahal vineyards in Oliver. It was aged 11 months in mixed French and Slovakian oak, of which 50% was neutral.
Expect a rich and chocolaty nose with black raspberries, pipe tobacco and green olives atop licorice, dried plum and mocha. It's a woven wine, fleshy and supple with flavours to echo the nose and topped up with a little baking spice and fleur de sel. The tannins have a fine cocoa texture.
Stay tuned for a second wine made from Rhone white varieties.

WineDiva.ca was launched prior to WineScores, in February 2004. WineDiva is the alter ego of Daenna Van Mulligen. She wears a cork tiara and is proof that a girl can have her w(h)ine and drink it too! WineDiva.ca is a tongue-in-cheek approach to a very serious passion for all things wine. WineDiva’s goal is to make wine fun, subtly educational & deviously inspirational. Vintage reciting wine snobs need not apply. WineDiva is painting the wine world pink and drinking it all in, and her glass is always (at least) half-full.

WineScores is the more serious follow up to WineDiva.ca. WineScores was born from the demand to see wine writer Daenna Van Mulligen provide scores on her wine reviews. These are numerical scores based on a 100 point scale – an internationally recognized form of rating wines. These numbers provide a snapshot for consumers on how the wine reviewer views the overall quality of the wine. For more information on scoring wine, go to “about”.
